International Women’s Day was celebrated at University of Engineering and Technology Lahore under the slogan of Press for Progress. Historical imbalance status and deprive from basic rights were being addressed adequately for empowering women.
It was stated by Vice Chancellor UET Lahore Prof. Dr. Aziz Akbar while addressing to female faculty and students in a seminar arranged by Zimal Female UET Students Society at campus. He said, “Many concrete measures have been taking by government after its realization and approach to push the major part of society into main streamline through economic and social initiatives because no country can be developed without empowering women”.
On this occasion, Female faculty members expressed their views while saying that “Dominancy should be replaced with gender equality which is an essential element to stabilize the society and this approach will enable Pakistan to compete rest of the world in every walk of life”. Meanwhile motivational debater Nageen Qasi from Quetta Balochistan, Inspirational debator Fatima Tariq, Graphic Designer Farah Mahmood, First female bike rider of UET Maria Mehar, the proud lady who represented Pakistani women in Europe and won the first prize in the field of Oil and Gas Ms. Sara Mujahid, Chairperson Department of Chemistry Prof. Dr. Rubina, Advisor UET Zimal Society Prof. Dr. Rehana Sharif, Chairperson Computer Science Departmen Prof. Dr. Shazia Shoaib and First Pakistani lady in the field of Architecture and Design and most senior Alumni of UET Prof. Dr. Neelum Naz who achieved Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah award in 2008 participated as guest speakers of the event.
Guest speakers urged youth to demonstrate their potential and excel in all growing fields for playing productive role. In the end, an awareness walk led by Vice Chancellor UET Lahore Prof. Dr. Aziz Akbar was also held in campus.
